In this uncertain world, you can never be too prepared. Our survival food has a 20 year shelf life, provides all the sustained energy you need – and is suitable for everyone: families, lone wolves, and adventure seekers.
But besides our compact food range, what other products with a long shelf life should you store away, should the unexpected happen?
Here are our top five.
1. ROLLED OATS
When stored at room temperature, rolled oats can last up to two years. Moisture and oxygen can affect lifespan though; buy an oxygen absorber and they could last 20 years.
2. DRIED PASTA
Pasta is one of many survival foods with a long shelf life and is likely to last about 24 months. In a moisture-free environment, it can remain edible for up to 30 years.
3. LEGUMES & DRIED LENTILS
Expect legumes and dried lentils to remain edible for 4-5 years. If you wait any longer, you’ll find they take longer to cook – and may be too tough to eat.
4. DEHYDRATED FRUIT
Deprive your fruit of oxygen and moisture to stop it perishing – then store it away, checking periodically for signs of spoilage. Expect your fruit to last about 15 years.
5. POTATO FLAKES
Potato flakes can last up to 30 years. They may survive longer if sealed and stored in a cool, dark location. Potato flakes are guaranteed to last up to 15 years.
6. BEEF JERKY
Beef jerky – or any other dried meat for that matter – will keep for roughly two years unopened. Leaner meat lasts longer; so less fat is better.
7. PEANUT BUTTER
Standard peanut butter straight out of the jar will last about 24 months if unopened. But the powdered version is much better prepper food, boasting a life span of over a decade.
8. OLIVE OIL
If left in ideal conditions and unopened, olive oil can still be used for up to two years. Be sure to store yours in a dark place to keep yours fresh.
9. CORN SYRUP
Add corn syrup to your emergency food supplies list, because it has an almost infinite shelf life – even when opened (as long as you keep the lid on tight).
10. Add our energy bars to your survival food checklist
Our energy bars are packed full of essential vitamins and suitable for vegetarians too. Whether you’re worried about future food shortages caused by COVID or want an energy source for your outdoor adventures, our energy-packed and nutritious food will give you everything you need.
